Roshni's Outreach Centre
The Kampoo Centre is Roshni's outreach base. It was found that families living in and around the Awad Pura slum district of Gwalior were unable to reach the main centre based on the other side of the city. Roshni started providing educational and therapy services from a room lent by a local women's hostel.
Many of the families using the centre live in extreme poverty. Poverty increases the likelihood of having a disabled child in the family, partly due to poor maternal nutrition and limited access to sanitation and medical facilities.
Roshni works hard with these families to ensure they are receiving government benefits to which they are entitled. They also provide medical care through a local paediatrician, who gives his time voluntarily on a regular basis to run free clinics for the children and their siblings.
