ROSHNI is a special school and therapy centre for children and young adults with physical and learning disabilities in the city of Gwalior, India. Many of the children live in extreme poverty, and without Roshni’s support, would be deprived of education and rehabilitation services.
Roshni aims to help all its’ children and young adults reach their full potential in all areas of their development – communication, motor skills, social skills, academic learning, self-care, and play. We continue to work with them into adulthood, helping them develop vocational and independence skills, to enable them to participate fully within their families and communities to the best of their abilities.
Friends of ROSHNI UK is a registered charity which supports the work of ROSHNI in India, through raising funds and sending skilled volunteers, including Physiotherapists, Specialist Teachers, and Speech and Language Therapists. Our Child Sponsorship Programme is an effective way of supporting Roshni’s work, with sponsors giving £5-£18 per month.
We are currently raising money to build a Sensory Garden at Roshni, to provide a safe and accessible space for children and adults with complex needs to experience the beauty of the natural world. If you would like to donate, please visit our fundraising page.
We are also appealing for funds to support our most vulnerable families financially through our Grandmothers’ Fund. This was established to provide food parcels to a few families where the child was being supported by an elderly relative due to illness or death of their parents. The fund has grown to support other families living in extreme poverty. We are anticipating that the Covid-19 pandemic is going to result in a lot more families requiring support, and so we are appealing for donations to support them.
